Our Story

bluue’s goals are to provide local women with the chance to connect to the ocean and each other while building individual career paths

bluue’s creation

The idea for bluue came about on a women’s fundraising dive for the Roatán Peer Health Exchange in partnership with Sundivers July 2021.

One of the divers in the event was a college student heading into her senior year. Teagan was looking for a project for her BFA that combined her passions of art, nature, and diving. This fundraiser facilitated her meeting Trudy, a local and activist on the island.

Together they came up with an idea that would help women on the island with new experiences, career paths, and life paths. This idea became bluue.

bluue’s founder

bluue was founded by Teagan Ferraby as her BFA with The Cleveland Institute of Art in 2021 -2022.

"I chose to focus my BFA on creating a non-profit because I was raised in an environment where we were all taught to help others. Growing up my family has always been involved in fostering, VBS, and volunteer work.

Roatán was chosen for my BFA because my family has a deep connection to the local community. Since 2015, we have been going to the island yearly. We are also all PADI certified, down to my baby sister. This past year (2021) while I was there, I went to a women-only diving fundraiser for the Roatán Peer Health Exchange. After a full day of diving, I began talking to the other women there about life on the island. Almost all of us were actually tourists or people that had moved to the island. I also talked to Trudy, the organizer of the event, and a local. We discussed how few job opportunities there were on the island for women, as well as how almost none of the locals got the opportunity to dive, unlike everyone there that day. I decided that I wanted my BFA to be something that could help."
